I've always filleted Pike the same as walleye and ended up picking out bones. I like how this guy does it. Does anybody else do it this way, and is it as easy as it looks?

I have always done mine the same way as walleyes as well and just pick out the y bones. I saw this video this fall and did our winter take homes this method. Definitely boneless when you are done but takes quite a bit longer and wastes more meat. My wife did like her totally boneless filets for dinner so I guess its a toss up between quality of filet and your time to do it. Take your pick.
I also found another video on youtube where the guy basically does it the same as a walleye but show how to take out the y bones as well. Looks way faster but have not tried it yet.

I'm interested in this boneless method because the kids aren't too good at picking out bones themselves, so either we do it or they don't eat very much. The average pike has quite a bit of meat on it so I don't mind wasting a bit to be boneless if that means the kids will eat more of it.

I like the more traditional method of keeping the two side fillets whole then cutting out the y-bones. After a few times I could practically do it blind folded. Less waste too.

This is how I remove the y-bones:

Good vids. The first looks like a lot of waste but little mess, the secod looks like less waste, I will do it the second way more meat.

That is my favorite method, too. It might take a bit of practice when you first start out, but it is the easiest and best method (IMHO).

Good luck, Firegod! Get them kids eatin' the slough sharks!
