Instead of being upset, embrace it.
Go take out a US Money market fund. Buy whatever you can at Par or wait till our $ goes even higher. When our $ tumbles to $0.87 you will make yourself some money for the hunting season or Christmas. 13% plus whatever you made in interest while it was invested. Good times.

Daco, another great suggestion!!
I am still kicking myself for not dumping my available millions into USD when our dollar rose to $1.10 for a quick 10%...

He already tried. After I told him that the dog was "bought American" he just let him hump his leg. When he was leaving, he fell on the sidewalk. Went to the hospital and complained about the waiting line.

I like it, it is when I do most of my ebay hunting. Trouble is though it hurts our economy horribly.

Yet despite the loonie on par, a bit above or a bit below, things will still cost more. Really doesn't make any sense to me at all.

The price of Ruger #1's and winchesters etc should soon start to tumble. Can;t wait.
Don't know why you guys are blaming Obama. This is all Bush's fault everyone knows that. Don't you watch MSNBC or CNN? The big 0 is a financial genius. The American economy was stinking it up until the Demoncrats took control of the House in 2006. Ever since then things have been improving. I read all about it in the New York Times. Everyone knows that when you get into financial trouble you start regulating business, increasing social programs beyond all comprehension and spending piles of money you don't have. Common sense boys....common sense. Next thing you're gonna tell me is that you should pay off your credit cards instead of running them up even higher when times are tough.
I wouldn't go investing in American pesos just yet. I think the US dollar is going to get devalued considerably more yet. Canada is in a relatively strong position compared to our neighbours to the south. At least under Harper anyway...not sure how Iggy would do with the economy...seems like a tax and spender to me...not that Harper is exactly being a fiscal conservative but at least they are not throwing money all over the place like drunken sailors.

Is THAT what happened? here all along I thought that printing off more money was rebuilding the economy...

Actually you have the impact upside down - sort of. Oil is an international commodity and is usually quoted as so much $US dollars per barrel. Oil companies will only sell their oil based on the US dollar. Which is then reflected in the price of gas. This is converted into canadian dollars and the taxes added on.
In a nutshell a stronger Canadian dollar means cheaper gas at the pump. It is interesting to note that our prices have not gone up as the price of bbl of Oil has gone up. That is because at the same time our dollar was increasing in lock step. Our dolllar is a petro dollar.
What I am looking forward to is the price of guns that I would like, coming down. Same goes for ammo, fishing equip, etc. All the great stuff that is sometimes (was) too pricey in Canadian Pesos.
But the retailers will not adjust without pressure. Always the same instant price increases when the dollar drops, long lags and pressure needed when the dollar rises. Excuse is that they have all this old inventory that was bought when the dollar was down. YEAH RIGHT! Like any retailer has any inventory of significance any more. It all just in time or wait us to order in it for you time.
So if your looking for new stuff check out the US web sites, add a little for shipping and duties and that is the max you should be willing to pay for it. I am talking about the big retailers and the mass produced goods, not the industry specific stuff or the custom stuff or other items like it. No excuse for Basspro or cabelas or WSS.
