Fishfinder

With the new season upon us, wondering what everyone wants to personally accomplish this year out on the open water or on the ice. What are your goals this year as far as fishing goes?? (within reason:lol:)

Here's a few of mine:
-Beat my personal Sturg record of 49" (never weighed it...should have)
-Catch my first Whitefish
-Outfish my "main" fishing buddy as much as possible (we play dollar a fish)
-Catch a fish outta Murray Res. (still think it's a myth they are in there:o)
-Catch 5+ different species in one outting from one location in one day
(can't seem to get past 4...so far)

Aside from breaking every Alberta fishing record known to mankind, let's hear some 2010 goals all??
Cheers.:)

I forgot a very important goal. It will be ongoing for quite awhile I reckon....
-Catch a one-eyed Wally.;););)

I really enjoy getting out to some of the hike-in lakes to fly fish, and there are a few lakes that I've wanted to get to that I haven't yet. My knees aren't like they used to be, so I want to hit a few of these this year.

Also, I have caught most of the "sports fish" in Alberta, but have yet to catch both walleye and lake trout. It would be nice to catch both of these this year for the first time.

Good stuff and good luck! Surprised u have yet to catch a walleye here in Alberta. When you do, if it is one-eyed Walter....I owe you 20 bucks:lol:but pls release him this way, so I can catch him at a later day:)
Have fun on the hike-in lakes n fly fishing! Sounds awesome!

Watching the looks on my boys faces when they catch something. It would be nice to see my girlfriend catch something too. Last year was her first time fishing and even though she was skunked, she's hooked.

I will try to stay calm when I get a decent fish on, and not fall into the Little James river this year. I would also like to get a Walleye out of Burtstick Lake.

My goals are simple, get out fishing as much as I can, enjoy each day out there and spend time with friends and family out on the lakes.

-Catch a one-eyed Wally.;););)

First off, being a man with the mind I have, I will leave the one-eyed wally alone :innocent:
Second, my goals are fairly simple.
1: all three kids and the wife catch fish, whether I do or not
2: make it to the summer AO fish gathering
3: learn to flyfish :) (I have my rod)
4: get out more often

Catch a brown trout (would be first for me).
Win a SAWT tourney.
Catch personal best sizes this year.
Catch a Golden Trout.
Fish on 10 new lakes that haven't been on before.

Current personal best sizes (alberta):
- 10 lb walleye
- 22.5 lb pike
- 1 lb 8 oz perch
- 6.2 lb white
- 3.5 lb laker
- 2.4 lb brookie
- 2.5 lb rainbow (had many opportunities, but not measure and no pic = not counting in my books)
- 10 lb bull
- .5 lb cutt
- small grayling from wedge pond (I want to try bear pond this year)
- caught a few burbs at PCR, have no idea how big they were (maybe 4lbs)

03-18-2010, 11:24 AM
I would also like to get a Walleye out of Burtstick Lake.

Good luck! I've caught one on the very south end in the lily pads where all the pike are. Not many in there these days, I wish they'd restock it. It would be an awesome walleye lake.

my goal is to go fishing during the weekday as much as possible this year to avoid the gong-show at the boat launches during the weekend!!!. :tongue2:

1. I had a couple of busy summers since the bow flooded but I have lost contact. So goal 1 is to re-learn the Bow. 1B drift the bow from glenmore to Carsland before runnoff.

2. Fish a lake in Alberta for something other than stocked trout. Badger and PCR are top of the list for reasons to come.

3. The third is spread out between Alberta and my Cabin in Saskatchewan. I have caught plenty of pike in my life but none have been confirmed over 20lbs. So I will be giving up on numbers and commit to size. Gladly a trip to badger this coming June could fix both 2 and 3.

4. Catch a lake dwelling whitefish.

5. Get two of my sons half as hooked on fishing as the third, quick trips to PCR might help with that.

6. Catch some Goldeyes ... smoked fish must have smoked fish, and it does a old Winnipeger good to catch goldeye, they are a fun fish.

7.This is a group goal between myself and "Hover" my fishin'/eating machine of a son. Win the Pine lake ice fishing derby!!

Beautiful fish! It's too bad they havent re-stocked it. Your right it would be a great Walleye lake. I was there one weekend last year and there were a couple of guy's that said they had caught 4 that day although I only saw them get one. I guess I over estimated the numbers in there.

I still need a bull on a fly, hooked 4 last year, could have beached one but i wanted to net it and i bobbled the netting.

Catch a livingston cutty, again hooked a few but no luck yet.

Learn to pass up all my known waters and find some new stuff to play in.

Decent brookie on the fly.

Learn to fish nymphs

All realistic goals, I hope to complete all these this year.

Well after my first two days fly fishing on the Bow this year I'd say my goal is "REMEMBERING HOW TO CAST A %#$*&%#$ FLY ROD!" :mad2: Man, it's like I've neve done it before in my life! Ten false casts to get 20 feet of line out, casts that end up in piles... grrrrrrr I was embarassed. I need a refresher lesson.

Fish more, fish better, new species, and bigger. :) Pike on the fly, bigger pike on 4 pound and maybe 2 pound line. my first Sturgeon, and one of each of the weird fish I see swimming in the river down here. Maybe a 20 pound pike from the river, and a 30 pounder from a lake. Beat my 8 pound walleye, and have a lot of fun fishing. Make more fishing friends too and learn from all of them.

Place in the top 10 of all 4 SAWT tourneys.
Head out to some unknown waters that hold monster brown trout and take them on the fly
Hike into a few remote lakes with the belly boat and fly rod
Catch a few decent sized sturgeon out of the oldman right in city limits
hook into some monster cutties on dry flies
Fish the hell out of bullshead and police
Get out on the new boat and catch as many fish as possible and have fun the whole time i'm doing it.

And last but not least, pull a 30+" out of an untalked about rainbow trout river that I fish quite a bit.

for myself i was watching a british fishing show that did a 30 day challenge and i would like to try this challenge. its you have 30 days to catch every game species where ever you live in my case alberta. i have caught every game species in alberta except the golden trout and grayling. i think i will try and do this challenge on open water and maybe during ice season too. second would be try and get some more boating experience in before my annual sturgeon trip.

Quebec Red Trout are there own sub species and are closely releated to Arctic Char even though they look like Brook trout but have no blue halos.. They are found in block lakes but they are also somewhere else in the Alberta 's Rockies
