I started on my spoons today, only picked up the white paint so far, so I thought Id give most of them a good basecoat, then get more colors this week.

Looking good so far. Did you scuff and prime them first? I cant remember where you live but if you in the Edmonton area I would be happy to help you airbrush a few.

way down south here. . I figured Id try 3 coats of paint without the primer, the pike will chew it all off anyways, if it doesnt work I will just redo them later. Just going to do some basic patterns but try some red and whites on the bottom and leave the tops of some of the dimpled ones silver to catch more light. a long long time til May opener. good thing Newell is open all year :D

Endura paint works very well and holds up very good.

Endura works very well but the chemical content is through the rough. You really should be spraying that in a paint booth with an air supplied respirator.

If you want the paint to stick you really should scuff the spoons with some 320 grit sandpaper and use a "galvanized metal primer" or if you have access to industrial paints, a "bare to metal etch primer". Lightly scuff the primer with a 400 grit paper then paint your design then clear.
A good quality clear makes a huge difference too.
I painted these spoons last year and they held up against a rocky section of the NSR.

beautiful paintwork, those are too nice to tease pike with, they would destroy the paint pretty quick. nicer to leave in the tacklebox and admire when the fishing is slow OK so Im easily amused

What do you need to make your own spoons? What would a decent setup cost?

I ordered my parts from http://www.luremaking.com/index.htm
figure without paint they cost me about a buck a lure, including split rings and treble hook. I just got the lighter economy spoons this time, they didnt have the size I wanted in the brass, maybe next time
