so this is a good time for the big pike fishing? the ice is off most of the lakes down here in the south. I always read about people getting the big ones after the spawn. When exactly is that? Right after the ice is out or is there a date pattern or when the water starts to warm up?

thanks

Fish are not spawning yet, P.C.R is closed started April 1st & re-opens May 8,which is when post spawn fishing begins..

Wait til the water temps hit the mid 60's(in bays and shallows).Thats when the BIG females are at their most aggressive and probably the easiest to catch.Bring a water thermometer,it,s the most important piece of equipment you should have at this time of year.

Couple things, check your regs. Most lakes are closed no until may 8th. And PCR is closed until may 21 this year.

If a lake isn't listed, it's open all year. But fish won't spawn until the spawning sites warm up to 55-60 degrees. Although fish should be agressive now, throw some cranks out there and see what happens. And they are likely crusing the shallows because it will warm up quicker.

When does the ice usually melt in Mornville?
