If they are breathable or "loose" fitting always wear a waist belt so they do not "fill up" when you fall.

Learn quickly...that if you fall, your brand new fly rod and reel is worthless to you , if u can't get out of your waders very quickly or make it to shore nearly as quickly, let your equipment go and concentrate on your problem... obviously only applies to waist deep or more...

the problem with most people is they're standing out in the weeds.
And they fall and starty kicking an flailing. Getting tangle and caught up in the weeds or pressing down and getting caught in the mud. in wich case drops the suspenders and pull yourself out.
otherwise.
be calm. and "try" to stand back up. if unaccomplishable. Stay calm and take the suspenders off. flap your arms to move yourself back into the shallow waterwhere you can sit out of water.
Remember If you panic you get tangled you will eventually run out of air. Be Slow. Be Safe.

And as Stated Before.
Never Worry about you equipment.
Your Life is Endangerd.. Let it go....
And come back for it once your free.
If You Get Free.

Make sure you have some kind of non slip soles on the waders or wading boots. Mine have felt and it works great. Just be aware nothing will replace common sense. If it looks unsafe dont do it.
