I am heading to the Skeena / Kitimat rivers this year and I need to load up the fly boxes with some Salmon flies. And I will be fishing for everything that swims. Springs, Sockeye, Pinks, Chum.

What patterns should I bring with me. I figure this will be a big chore and I should get cracking on it.

Thanks.

Nice websites but not very helpful in that department.

Maybe have a look at these ones:
http://bigredflybox.wetpaint.com/page/Steelhead+&+Salmon+Flies+For+Sale

They've all got epoxy heads, by the look of it. You might be able to come up with a close approximation of the flies without ordering the recipes.

Edit: Found some of April's recipes:

Hi oagie,

I was at the Skeena about 10 years ago and the flies I used were lots of bright colors like pink, purple, yellow, green, silver tinsel and crystall flash. My experience fishing salmon is getting your fly at the bottom of the river. If you are not at the bottom you will not catch any fish at all. As far as the fly pattern it does really matter. Find some flies that you would like to tie and tie lots of them. I also changed the color pattern on the one's I like to tie. I've seen someone tie on just a yellow piece of yarn on and catch a beauty of a sockeye.

Also tie lots of flies, you will lose lots of flies at the bottom of the river.

I hope this helps.

I like to use clousers for salmon fishing. I tie them in pink, green, purple, black, red, blue and sometimes in combinations of colors.

The Skeena is one huge MF of a river. So be damn carefull.
