How often is lead core line used, I am concerned about it enviromentally, if it break and goes to the bottom.
My understanding is you used lead core line for fishing deep if you do not have a down rigger as the weight of the line pulls the hook down to deeper water.
If you have a down rigger what type of line do you spool on the reel?

Hi

Never had it break, I always use a lighter weight leader and that will break long before the leadcore will.

Leadcore line is speed sensitive. Slower the speed the better the sink rate.

And yes you could use it in place of a downrigger. You can also use a diving planer in place of a downrigger, such as pink ladies, dipsy divers etc.

There are no special lines required for your reel when downrigging. Most any lines will do - mono, fused superline, braided superline. But a downrigger rod is needed.
