Hey guys, new to the board, though I'd say hello.

I've been lurking since I moved away from Alberta 6 years ago. This ice off period there was always my favorite and I still get excited reading the reports.

I charter fish on the west coast of Vancouver Island and the storms we have been getting have been making it really tough to get out, but the fish are there.

Couple recent pix of the last trip out for halibut

Lots of good salmon fishing right now too, caught 5 winter chinooks between 6-10lbs on Tuesday with a group visiting from Whitecourt.

Anyhow, you guys have fun with last ice/ice off. Lots of great fishing to be had out there for the next couple of months for sure!

I know if I still lived out there I'd likely be at Police Outpost around now... ;)

Here's my question...why does the guy in the first pic have the baitcasting rod flipped upside down?

welcome to this Forum. If you come to "Town" sometime this year maybe we could get out Sturgeon fishing...or better yet maybe I should come out there and you could take me out hali fishing:)

HaHa the blonde is Wendy, she works at the resort. Looks good beside fish...

That guy has the rod upside down because the fish was large and his forearm is stronger on that side so he elected for the power of his good arm to pump and use his weaker to reel.

Lippy - do we know each other? You know which 'town' it is I generally visit while out there or just guessing? I'd love to catch an Alberta sturgy, one of the few things I didn't catch while living out there. I've got a couple buddies in the SE corner of the province who started getting them last year, but my timing is always off. I'd happily take you for a hali in return. Likely be that way in fall after elk hunting the east koots.:)
