I am looking for a partner to help me chart the Edmonton to Ft Sask area NSR on Wednesday. Plan to chart a few good holding areas and channels as well as hopefully get catch some fish!! I need someone to act as a forward lookout for shoals and obsturctions in the river, and be able to drive a stick shift as the launch has no dock so I need someone to be able to jump out and get the truck backed down to the river. End result is to find a few hidden honey holes and create a plotted route on the river as well as produce some nice HD sidescanned images to post. I have one maybe right now, but never hurts to have anoter set of eyes, or another rod when we do find the "Sweet Spot"!

Well it's been a really bad day Zan nothing is going right. The one thing I have going is I came back to work tonight and will probably stay here all night in order to get caught up and if I do I'll come down and meet you for sure.

Man Ive had days like that:tongue2: Well dont kill yourself, besides we have all summer to do this, just hoping the water level does't get any lower...I was driving around scouting a few river bank locations and man its down...but I figure if we can find a few nice channels we will find some good fish holding areas....Just dont want to try it myself....if I can't get help for Wednesday Im gonna do some preseason scouting at wabamun. thats an easy 1 man launch.

Visibility is about 3 inches out west as of yesterday, I don't know if you'd be able to see anything 'til its too late. I'm guessing you've got a prop boat.

ya its a prop, but I have paddled this section of the river quite a few times and I have no intention of crusing at 40 mph! Just keep the prop lifted up, slow and steady and pick my way along. then when I have confirmed a good route with enough water....then maybe I'll think about crusing. She is a shallow river with lots of shoals and sand bars that like to keep changing, so its gonna be interesting!

Picking lines is easy once you have experience doing it. I don't have much experience running the river in a prop boat, I'm part of the jetboating crowd. The one thing I would warn you about right now is; there is A LOT of debris coming downstream from what I've seen, just be very careful about damaging your prop, plus if you're just going to be puttering along, your boat will be its lowest in the water, and even if the bottom doesn't touch bottom, it doesn't mean that your prop won't, even lifted up part way. Stay safe.

Thanks for the info, and ya i do alot of canoing on the NSR, but never taken out the boat, but last year I scouted a couple routes that I feel pretty competent in taking. All in all know is If I can't get where I want then oh well. Not sure if you run this leg of the river, but if so, and you have any info on depts, lines, and what not, that I could use, I would really appriciate it! I sit at about 18" draft right now, and usually like to keep it to 24" under the keel...and Last year when I paddled to Ft sask i could maintain that, but teh levels do look a bit lower this year..

You would do well to send sturgeonhound a PM, i'm much more familiar with the river out west.

Well went for a scouting trip again today by the river, and caught a few spunky jack...just 2-3 lbers but man did they fight...never seen a jack come clear out of the water almost a foot! Though for a moment there mighyt be trout in there.....any way chatted with the fish cops who where patrolling on seadoos and they definately said don't even bother....so Im gonna give up that idea and do some pre season Wabamun scanning instead...kind of a bummer, but oh well...better safe then have $$$$$$ sitting on the bottom!

Yeah I think they have a little more scrap to them when they have to swim currents all day at least that's my thoughts. I need to get the boat out aswell let me know when you go to wab maybe I can chase you around for a bit

you are brave man taking a prop up the river from fort i have launched there twice this year and its shallow. last year by june you could barely get out of the launch. On either side of the launch there are shallow spots mabe 24" deep this time of year. Mabe bring a spare prop
