All excellent choices. I haven't seen anyone use a zara spook in 10 years LOL, but i remember them being good.

I use so many things any so many different times of the year and fish for everything...but I'll give you my go-to's instead.

1. Knuckle ball jig head and berkly split tail hallow body (3") pearl. Jig head in green or pink.
2. Original rapala husky jerk, size 9, perch color, floating 4 - 6" run depth.
3. Five of diamonds or red and white.
4. Buzz bomb, 2.5" glow.
5. Buck shot rattle spoon for winter. Small ones for perch, bigger ones for walleye and pike.

Honorable mentions to sweedish pimple, puppet minnow, shrimp fly, glass ghost rapala, clackin rap firetiger, double tail white jigs and a wolly bugger.

Gr8 question.
Number 1 which should be on any fisherperson's list would be the good ol 5 of diamonds. If I am lost in the woods, surely it would be my "go to" hook.
After that gonna say BBs. White eyed red jiggys as small as I can find. Then prolly a simple hook with wichever most unfortunate insect I manage to wrangle and stick em on my hook. Don't have a fifth....maybe a spinner of some sort. Again...great question!!

O ya. Forgot to mention, if I got bait available, Pick rig is a great way to go. Gonna get bashed for saying that but don't really care. Peace all:wave:

Dang, the Swim Whizz should have been on my honourable mention list at the very least. It's my go to big pike lure and I've caught loads of big walleye on them too. A true Alberta classic lure for sure.

I put a Swim Whizz on at the start of a trip and it doesn’t come off unless I lose it! I find others in the boat are just wasting time changing lures. Average size of the pike/walleye caught on this lure is always bigger, my opinion.

What is a swim wizz?

Brudus
05-01-2010, 02:06 PM
It’s a large bodied crank bait, which has a shallow and a deep diving setting. (Just by attaching you line/leader to one of the two eyelets.) It floats but dives very well. It also works better than most when using a leader.
