My buddy Foldo and I took Friday off and left Thursday evening to Maligne Lake in Jasper. The moon was full when we arrived and the lake as smooth as glass.

We managed to just beat the sun coming over the mountains in the morning. We trolled a bit in home bay and then headed down to the creek to fish. I managed my first hit and rainbow that lept and got off. I then managed a 2nd hit and landed a great 18 incher. I think it jumped a total of 6 times with plenty of runs. Fantastic fish!

Foldo scored next with a couple of beautiful brookies. Then I caught a brookie with colors so intense you would think they were painted on. It almost looks fake the orange is so intense. The entire tail was orange as well. What a perfect looking brookie! Check out the pics.

After about 12 noon the fishing died off totally and we struggled to get any bites. Maligne can really shut off as the day progresses at this time of year.

On Saturday we continued on Maligne. After a nasty morning rain storm the weather changed as the day progressed and actually got really warm by the end of the day....including some afternoon hail...you get it all in the mountains! We managed to catch most of our fish in the morning and trolling at 5 kms. Very agressive fish including an awesome specimen of a rainbow that measured out at 19+ inches. The action died again in the afternoon. At one point we were treated to an awesome view of a female moose feeding on weed vegetation in the shallows.

Sunday we fished Kinky Lake by Hinton in the morning and then Wild Horse in the afternoon. Kinky was fun for some small brookies and some real football fatties. We also experienced agressive loons that seemed to have learned what a stringer of fish is for....stealing! We had one that was so agressive that it would torpedo under the water and the boat to grab at the stringer. I had it hooked on one of the fish on the stringer twice within inches of my hand. I eventually took a paddle and knocked the loonie bird on the noggin as it came in under the water....hardly phazed the bird. It was weary though after that when I would show it the paddle. Words can't describe how nuts this bird was.

Wild Horse....well....let us not speak of it again....

Sunday fished around Hinton and Edson. Nothing too exciting to speak off but a super nice day with an incredible sunrise.

Another amazing weekend to the East. Looking forward to future trips. Here are some pics:
