The oddest one i have ever used was a slug. Ran out of worms and i couldnt find any under logs. Lots of slugs though.

Red gushers fruit snacks. Was fishing the Panther River with my oldest boy when he was like 2 or 3. Was using spinners and catching the odd small trout when he dug out his "snack". I grabed one and threw it on just to see as I thought it kinda looked like a huge egg. 10 seconds later I pulled a 2lb cutthroat out.

Ju Jubes. Used them in Northern Sask and caught pike like crazy. Although... I think you can use just about anything in northern Sask and catch pike like crazy.

When I was 16 living in Ont. I found a huge cockroach in the red peppers when I was getting the produce section setup. that weekend it went on my hook, still my biggest large mouth Bass to date. A little over 4lbs. I remember putting my fist in its mouth to carry it home.

A chunk of ginger snap cookie, I hated them when I was a kid and would do anything to get rid of them. The fish didn't like them either.

Here is a classic Fish Tail - Tale
Of course this was back in the day when bait was allowed - A friend and I were fishing for trout, and catching nothing. I was trying everything in my box. I decided to put a huge wad of bubble gum on my hook and toss it out there into the river, more out of boredom than anything. Within seconds my ultra light ugly stick was bent in a complete semi-circle with line stripping out of it. I was laughing so hard watching my buddy chomp some gum as quickly as he could to get the new found magic bait out there. I fought the fish for a long time. When it was finally landed it was a MONSTER mountain whitefish that measured just one stinking inch short of the provincial record at the time. Meanwhile my friend couldn't get a bite on his bright pink wad. The "catch" to the story is, that I had actually snagged this monster whitefish by the tail. I of course will never know if it swiped at the gum with it's tail and hooked up, or if it was in every sense of the word just dumb luck.
Regardless it is a wonderful Fish Tail - nonetheless!!!

a few of us were in trouting, we had a couple hundred trout I suppose and ran out of bait...

I tried chewing gum rolled in dirt... caught one, that was it.

Then we started cutting off the tails of the other,..that worked pretty ood.

By that time we had already used all the eyes,..whick I believe is the best or at least second best bait for brookies..

When I was 7 my Dad took our family on a horse pack trip in the Willmore. I was fishing for bulltrout and got my spinner snaged on some rocks. Well trying to yank my lure loose I noticed maybe 2 lb bully in the pool next to me.I got the brain storm to put my finger in the water and sure enough he gave it a chomp.

Rotten jack rabbit meet for sturgeon, definatly not my idea but it worked.

Are you seriously allowed to use perch eyes for bait? I thought the rule used to be you couldn't use a game fish or any parts of one for bait?

I have never used it here, back in MB if you catch one perch you kill it and plop out his eye then cast it back or drop it down to where you caught the last one. You will catch every perch in that spot using that technique Lol

About 15 years ago we were fishing Utikima Lake for walleye and our best bait was Calahoo Meats garlic sausage. I have never caught so many and lots were in the 8 to 10 pound range. Beef heart was working well that day as well.

A couple of years ago while out on Pigeon I ran out of minnows. So I put a piece of moose pepperoni on a jig head and 60 seconds later I had a walleye on. I will dig up the picture later and share it with everyone.

My Grandfather used to use a ball of "tin foil" off the inside of a cigarette pack to catch perch off the dock. We caught quite a few fish as kids using this. :bad_boys_20:

Back in northern Sask, a old native guy I was fishing with tied a red rag to his line with no hook, and caught pike. The rag would get caught in there teeth, strange but true.

My Dad and I were fishing 25+ years ago, and people were hauling in perch. Having no bait at all, we used little torn off pieces of carbaord off his cigarette package. I still say that was the best perch fishing I have ever seen, thought maybe it was the smell.

Out pike fishing a couple of years ago. The little hammerheads were hitting on just about anything. So testing that theory I clipped a glowstick on my leader.
First cast produced a strike. Got him up to the boat before he realized that he wasn't hooked and let go...
