Outside of Calgary there is a river that is slow moving and quite deep. I went fishing there today in a secret spot in what I will refer to as the "Secret River". It is within an hour of Calgary in the prairies and my spot has lots of fish. Today I went there and spent a few hours catching walleye. I caught 9 and then decided to drive to a nearby lake to fish. After an hour I got bored and went back to the river. In an hour I caught 3 more walleye. 12 WALLEYE IN ONE DAY!!! I was about to pack it in and I decided to change my lure from a Rapala Countdown Brown Trout to a Storm Wildeye perch. I was sorta jigging with it when suddenly I got a massive bite. It was a huge fight and I did not know what I was dealing with. I assumed it was a massive pike but then it flashed near the surface and I could not believe my eyes. It was a RAINBOW TROUT. Here is a picture of it. I normally release the fish I catch but this was a trophy that I need to bring home to show off. We are barbecuing it next Saturday. It was 24 inches. All in all it was a good day with 12 walleye and this baby.

She was full of eggs. I kept a tupperware dish completely full of roe to use as bait. I felt bad for killing her because she could have laid her eggs but I guess I will get to enjoy a nice meal.

Don't feel bad about killing that trout man, if we all did that and released everything we would ever eat fish!
Congrats on the catch BTW.....

She sure is chunky, great catch!:jawsmiley:

It's funny how you run into big trout in places where you least expect them.

Few years back I was fishing at Mcgregor, first I caught a wally, then a pike and right after it came a chunky rainbow, trix in the mix ;)

Awesome fish Jasen!!!!
I ended up taking the kids to Sibbald on Sunday. They were the happiest kids in the world when they started pulling fish out of the water

don't feel bad about eating trout.
if you have watched the movie: the end of line, you will feel more guilt when you eating sushi!
fishery has decreased 90% comparing to 50 years ago! soon there will be no more ocean fish for all.

btw very nice catch!

Tough on a fly rod, but I know a guy that might try that! :)

Here is a shot of a beaver feeding at Star Lake on the weekend.
This one has no fear of people.
