I had an awesome day today, checked out a new to me lake with a veteran, and matched him fish for fish give or take one or two. 20 pike each, from a couple little tackhammerhandles to Dodgers that I am sure beat my 6 pounder by a pound or so. Lots of sunshine, little wind, and some very agressive and hungry fish make some great spring fishing!
Start of my morning. My everyday view of the sunrise.

My first fish of the day, small but feisty, I didnt even have time to turn the reel handle before he was on

it was just a big jig with a grub. they were biting on lots of things . Drano the weather couldnt have been more perfect, the odd little breeze to cool us down, but otherwise no wind, and sunny sky. Looks like it will be the same today.

Great pics Wayne, it looks like you guys had a good time out there!

As for that last lure that Dodger was using, is that a Deadly Dick? Was he just doing a cast/retrieve kinda thing with it? I ask because I've only ever used them for jigging in the winter. :)

And the no leader thing is kinda neat. From what I've observed with the little pike fishing I've done in the river is that with the flashy kinda lures (spinners, spoons, spinnerbaits) that draw more of an aggression type of strike, they seem to hit it near the back of the lure, so the teeth never get up to the line. The few that I've caught on the Storm Wildeyes that look more like a natural prey item, completely inhaled the lure, and I did have one chew through my line (thankfully right after I got it on shore)

That was caught on my Perch rod that I keep in the boat. I was jigging for Perch and he hit the jig. The funny thing is that was the 6th Pike over the last 2 trips that I caught on there with no leader.

Dodger.
