hi all,
i am looking to convert a 14' zodiac classic into a two man fishing/ diving boat. my question is, is it possible to fit twin 20hp four stroke outboards on the transom of this boat?

thanks all

Oh, man... I doubt it.
I could be wrong, but twin engines on a 14' seems rather moot. Why not a 30 and a small 4 stroke kicker for an 'alternate method' of getting back to shore / safety? Is it because you already have a 20hp?

Or you can do what i did and just slap a 50 horse merc on the back.

Trim it right while driving and only the leg will touch the water

I don't see a problem with twin 20's :thinking-006:

This is a 21' Zodiak, designed for the Canadian Coast Guard it was parked at the gas station (go figure!!!) at Tahsis Harbor last fall. Coolest thing I've ever seen!!!

wonder what they hope to pull in with the fishing rods? maybe those funny looking bales that seem to pop up when they chase a ship :bad_boys_20:

Holy crap! 900 HP? :scared0015: A little overkill maybe? I had a 12' zodiac with an old 15 HP Evinrude. Once that baby got on plane, it was friggin fast.

I had a friend who owned a 14 foot zodiac with a 25 horse engine on it. That sucker was crazy fast, pretty sure it could have pulled a skier. Two 20's would be nuts.

Yep, that's WAAAAAY overkill. A couple 200's on there would be PLENTY and you'd still have some redundancy.

My buddy can do 26mph in a 14' Crestliner with a 20hp Tohatsu on it, so you should be able to go even faster with 'Proper Inflation'.

Depending on what model and year of Zodiac you have, sometimes you're better off Selling the whole thing and starting fresh. The ZODIAC will fetch you some decent bucks.

Many of the new inflatables have 'larger interiors' with Aluminum floors, seats, etc and might suit your needs a bit better seeing as how you want to 'Dive' as well. One brand that comes to mind is the 'Seabright' line of boats. Anyway, something to think about.

Last year out at Masset there was a guy with a set up very similiar to what you are trying to do. If my memory serves me , he had two 20's (but I think they were 2 strokes) and he had done some fabrication work on the transom with some aluminium plate . It was a sweet little rig but he did it more for offshore safety than for the power ( if thats all you want a single 40 would do a better than two 20's). Having the twins on gave him the guts to head off shore and fish the same water for salmon and halibut that we were .
I wish I had taken some pics cause it really was a sweet little rig. If I see him this summer again I'll get some info for you .

I had a 12' fish and hunt Zode with a 15hp Yammy and that thing scared me a couple times. I caught some pretty good air off a few wakes in my day.............I sold if for $3000 last summer. The guy i sold it too wants me to buy it back for the same price because he has never used it. I think i might now????????
