I am putting in for male moose and am just wondering which zone you think is best. I think with all the rain we been having, I think any one of these zones should be putting out moose. I think I will go for 163 since it is a little closer to sask. And I know they have big moose. Would like to hear different suggestions what you think.:thinking-006:

163 has a very small amount of bulls. I have only seen one pig and that was 2 years ago. They are all scattered around. I haven't seen a bull in 164 and i have seen small ones in 162. You wont find a true monster in there, but there are some good meat bulls.

Oh, and it might take a couple 6+ years to get a tag. At least thats what i heard

I have a 9 for priority ,so I hope I will get drawn, seen 2 bulls last year in 164 but just small ones, would like to get a big one however the small ones are pretty tasty.

Alright, then you have a good chance!! I hunt 163 and 162 more than 164 so thats the reason why I have seen more in there.

IMO they are all pretty much the same. I'm sure each zone has a nice bull. Personally 163 would be my choice, just because I have seen a nice bull that would make P&Y

I'll post a picture of the one that I dream about

I'm pretty sure, that is/was the biggest bull in 163. But like i said. I think all 3 are pretty equal. I know the framers want the moose gone.

Just a question why would you waste your tag on a maybe? If you have not seen a big bull why would you apply there? I would 999 this year and go look for one in one of those zones then apply next year. 10 years is not worth wasting in my opinion.Where do you live? There might be a true monster in your back yard I could help you with.

Well the 9 is not likely to see you get drawn in 162 so I would go north all three zones have some good 55+ bulls if you have the time. 164 has the Imperial Ranch and Rumsey rserve areas that will give you a wack of permission and land to hunt but then most land owners are very willing to see the moose harvested so that is not a big issue anyway.

Good luck !

Zone 164 does not contain the Imperial Ranch or the Rumsey Reserve. Donny Bear is thinking of Zone 166. Of the zones mentioned, my order would be 163, then 162, then 164. That being said, I would place 166 above the other three zones mentioned.

x2 164 has some nice land to hunt, permission isn't too hard if you are respectable.

I stand corrected 166 is the zone with the ranch and reserve areas sometimes its all a blurr I only use the area as a preditor hunt but we have seen som dandy bulls that goes for each of the areas I believe 166 will produce better numbers better bulls well not so sure.

Thanks for the correction I would not want to misslead anyone.

I live in southern alberta, hunted 164 alot for deer.I know there some nice moose around in that zone, however last year my wife got drawn in 164 and we could not find any moose ,took us along time but we finally found one, and she got it a real young bull and very good eating. I thought maybe most moved out because it was such a dry year up there. however this year is a different story it is very wet year. that is why I am having trouble making my mind up where to go.

When is the draw deadline in Alberta? Mine had to be in end of May in Ont.

Unless you know the land, the landowners, have permission, a cell phone and a network of eyes there is little point to applying in 162 or 163. It is a very big area, there are very few bulls and they are very mobile.

164 is the best bet for your case I would think.

I have a priority level of 9 and hope to get drawn out there this year. Never thought it would take this long to get a bull tag or else would of just put in for a cow tag. I think maybe my hunting priorities have changed alittle over the last 9 years. Have to see whats out there this year if I get drawn and take the one thats eaziest to load into a truck. Someone told me you can't eat the horns anyhow and now I believe them.

I have spent a great deal of time in 163 with the dogs and hunting mulies and goats and I have only seen one bigger moose( maybe 35 inches). I probaly spend at least 3 weeks a year down there chasing dogs and i very rarley see any moose but in the last couple of years I have seen some cranker elk?? Hope this helps. Cheers SM
