To get to Kinnaird Lake from Jackson, do you have to portage your boat or is there a small creek that a boat can get through? If you have to portage, how far is it from Jackson to Kinnaird? Thanks in advance.

Not really a creek you can get through. There is a bit of a bank but that's all. We went into Jackson once from the north trail with a canoe and it was simple to lift it over the bank and into Kinnaird. It is trickier to access the northern tip of Jackson as that bay is very shallow and the shore is soft and slewy. Sometimes there are some logs corderoyed there. A car topper aluminum would be no problem either. I remember we caught a 6 pound walleye out of Jackson on a red devil spoon on that trip.

There is more than a creek running from Jackson to Kinnaird. In fact, they lifted the bridge so that bigger boats can get through. You still need to lift your motor, but it is smooth sailing right through now.

Cheers.

Things have changed a bit since I was there, then.

Drive your boat under the bridge on Jackson. You'll have to duck, but you should be able to get through. It was smooth sailing into Blackett last year as well.

We were in a 12 foot aluminum and didn't even have to duck. The bridge used to be low such that a high profile boat would not be able to get through. Now it must be 5 feet above the water and the water level is high this year. No problems at all.

Cheers.

At the staging area on the Touchwood Lake Road.

Yes, you will have to portage about 25 minutes. Canoe carts are at the trail head. BRING BUG SPRAY. Last year the bugs were bad through the bush wile portaging.

Awesome! I had seen some photos of the area with the canoe carts and I was hoping that the carts were available. Great news as I have a big canoe and small kids ( not real hearty portagers yet). Thanks all.

Hey all,
Thanks for your info on the Lakeland Park area. We brought the kids out to Jackson/Kinnaird and were very impressed with the area. Needed more time, but future trips are planned. I was surprised with the amount of larger power boats however. Still, very fun trip.
