Are the bookies biting good at this time 0f year ? What should I used for them ?

By the way is there lots of spots to camp close by the lake ?

Nothing for camping that I saw when I was there last year. There is a fire pit in the "parking lot" at the entrance to the lake, but it would be pretty impersonal.

Be careful when driving through the reserve. The speed limit might say 40, but the speed bumps they cut into the road will ravage you if you are going that fast.

Didn't see a single brook their last year either, only cutties. They are trying to phase out the brooks from what I've heard.

Good luck.

Aside from the paring lot, is there somewhere else a guy can camp ? Is it worth going there ?

Thanks

Was there on the weekend for the first time.

Fishing was fair. There are alot of small cutts in there that are fun to catch and a few good sized ones. It didn't seem to matter if we were using flies or lures on the surface or bottom - same success rate.

I left a nice sized pile of chopped wood north of the launch area if its still there for you. You shouldn't take any trees or deadfall from the area around the lake because it is a protected natural area.

Its a nice little lake to paddle but I wouldn't necessarily make the trip for it if you are coming from far away. The streams in the area were slow fishing due to high water levels.

Gas motors are allowed as far as I know but don't quote me on it.

You can camp over at Fairfax. Good rainbow lake with some real nice size, albeit infrequent, brookies.

Thanks for that guys it doesn't look like I will be able to fish from shore there though so I will have to wait until I have a boat.

Yes to fishing from shore just walk up lake from boat launch as in right to a point and you can catch from there .. cast spoons/raps/or pickerel rig with foam balls on hook not bait allowed till Nov to Dec 15

I have watched fly guys catch and spin from there
here is a couple 19 inchers from right along that point was a few years ago

That helps! Do you think it's still worth a 3hr road trip to fish from shore there though, I'm a pretty decent fisherman but it would suck to get skunked for such a journey! Lol

Ricky ...my friend and his boy were just there they caught 40 Cutts but none were legal .. last time for myself and Tim we got 18 none legal.. I did see some monsters on fish finder .. and the brook trout should be cruising the shallows soon.. as always there is no guarantee

Thanks for some assurance! I'm bringing my friend who has never caught one before so although I enjoy the challenging spots he is still fairly new to fishing so that is good to know!

What is the best way to drive in there?

Through Robb or the Elk River Road?

Thanks

Muskiki Lake is a mess. It was the best brook trout lake I have ever seen and that's going back 50 years. The idiot biologist at Edson or Hinton decided after this many years they were a threat to the bull trout in the Cardinal River. Complete and absolute bs.

You now have at best a fair cutthroat lake where the fish taste terrible and as everyone says don't amount to much. A lot of them go belly up when released and many of those die. It's about the worst example of fisheries non management that I have ever seen. Brookies are essentially gone.

It's fishing and worth trying if you have never been there. Watch your step ....no toilets.

X2, used to be an insane brook trout lake. Ice fishing was incredible and they were big.
