Saw about 10 seperate bears on the weekend. Maybe more actually didn't keep track. All in Kootenay National Park by Radium. I will download some pictures as soon as I can. Saw one black bear sow with 3 cubs two were black and one brown. Must have seen her 3 times at least.

So if your thinking of going hiking. Be damn sure to bring your bear spray and make lots of noise.

Bears might be scary, yes, but everyone has gotta realize they are just as scared of us as we are of them. For the most part, if you stay out of their way they won't bother you. Obviously, like the last post said, make lots of noise and travel in groups if possible... But the bear population is decreasing and I don't know about you guys but I think that's pretty sad. In my opinion, the more bears the better. Just be careful, and show respect.

I am far more afraid of cougars than bears. I always say that I would rather deal with a bear than a cougar. If a cougar has its sights on you, you wouldnt even know what happened.

I always have my dog with me. She lets me know if there are any bears in the vicinity and then making some noise usually does the trick. It's the ones that don't go away when you make noise and such, but still want to stick around, that cause trouble. Young and curious, I think.
Was very disappointed, recently, when I was out camping at a northern trout pond. Popular for day trips, but we were the only campers. A couple people were out fishing off the dock all day. Didn't use the cleaning station. Cleaned their fish right on the dock and left the mess. Then left bags of garbage from their lunch strewn about. This is well known bear county. That's when you get problems with bears, and it's not the fault of the bear.

May I ask why you would believe that bear populations are decreasing?
