Hi all,

Can anybody give me some tips as to where I can go rabbit hunting within an hour+ drive from Calgary? Unfortunately, I don't know any landowners outside of the city limits, and would prefer NOT to drive 2+ hours to find crownland.

Many thanks, all.

Are you looking to hunt snowshoes hares, cottontail or jack rabbits?

40 minutes puts you into crown land west of Bragg Creek where you can find snowshoes. Lower Bow, Red Deer and other southern Alberta prairie rivers have cottontails in the bottoms. IMO they are not very many of them and they look too cute to shoot. Jack rabbits are just about anywheres you find them in pastures. If asked nicely, most landowners probably will give permission as they have lost shrubs to the jacks.

http://xnet.env.gov.ab.ca/imf/imf.jsp?site=rec_access

this interactive map shows where all the crown land is and gives contact info for grazing leases etc. its a little hard to navigate at first, but very useful info.

@wyatts_daddy51 - I've been looking for an online crown-land map for ages. Big thanks.
