As my kids are getting older I had a little more time to do trail cams during the spring and summer. I took my kids along with me and we covered a tone of new area scouting. We checked the 5 cameras I have out and had some good luck on them. One camera had over 300 pictures in the last 4 weeks. I found a batch of elk I had no idea were there as well. We got another 4 cameras out as well and hope to see some horn growth in the next month before I get back to check them again. I had a bunch of bear pictures and finally figured out how to keep the bears off of the cameras this year. The beat the boxes I made up a bit but I didn't loose any cameras this time.
Enjoy the pics.

After looking at all the pictures i am learning they like the trace mineral light brown colored blocks better than any of the others. I never have tried the blue ones as the blue is just straight salt. The others ones are trace minerals and Selenium for better for calving

The great debate. Yes it is legal to have minerals out as long as you are surveilancing them an you remove it a month or so before hunting season an dont hunt over it.

Nice pics nube gonna arrow one this fall?

Awesome pictures!! Just wondering, how have your guys spring been going!?......Ours started in Feb. this year!!:) I'm asking because all the deer and elk I've seen out our way this year have massive amounts of growth already!! Took a picture of this guy about a month ago!!

We all know who the crap disturbers are on this forum. If you have been on this forum for any length of time you should know the rules by now. It has been proven and asked many times.

Some of these guys on here need to be ignored. I have said it before and I will say it again, it would be nice to have one of those functions on here to be able to ignore people if you choose to do so.

Pinksen, Great picture. Not too sure how to determine if we are getting good horn growth or not. We have had great water this year but we have also lost the top end of our herd structure and really it is tough to find any decent sized animal for another year or 2 till the younger generation gets up to prime age.

Predatoredge- no not going to arrow any this fall. I have not arrowed a deer for years to be honest. i hunt them with the shotgun adn rifle only. i wouldn't want to shoot any of these anyways. After a few years of getting to know them they are more like my pets. i have one deer I have watched for 4 years now. i hope he made it through tthe winter. he is a basic 4x4 150" deer. He has stayed the same size since i met him and I imagine he is on his last legs. Last I noticed he started downhill

Cattle ranchers have salt licks out for their cows all the time , have done so for hundreds of years , of course the wildlife like them too , so what if you sit there and wait.

Nube you brought this on yourself, you should have tried to hide the mineral blocks so the camera wouldn't show it. I haven't seen the wildlife touch salt blocks as they do with mineral blocks. Thanks for posting pics.

Hey Nube , how about the red blocks have you tried them? I also heard that you should break them up a bit , why, don't know, would they actually eat the small chunks? Oh yah nice pics.

Wow for last month that Elk is growing well.

I have to give you guys huge credit for getting the cameras out and going this early makes me feel lazy.

Usually I don't bother with summer pics but a couple of my kids are old enough now to go with me. It is easier to explain it is an outting with the kids to the wife and not just a day for dad now. I really did enjoy the time teaching them a bunch as well. My daughter now knows what bear poops look like.
I also wanted to get some good velvet pictures as well this year.
These pics are not the best I don't think. I need to up the megapixels to a higher quality and change a few settings to get the color better but they look o.k. I think I have 9 cameras out now and another 8 sitting here ready to go as soon as I can get some more bear boxes made for them. Next time I go out there will be decent antler growth so it will be fun.

I started doing the same thing with the kids,I have a 5 year old and 3 year old and started looking for sheds with them this spring and checking trail cameras. They love going out,I showed my 5 year old a few rubs last fall and now she is looking for them all the time. Its easier for me to get out when I have the kids and give the wife a break.

I thought they were great pics and they certainly get me in the itch to get into the bush. I am headed up to my bow spot to hang our stands in three weeks and set the cameras up. With a little luck, I will get some pics like yours too. Thanks for posting.

Cheers.

There's never enough time to spend in the bush!
We should all try to get out there, especially with our children, as much as we can.
Great photos, Nube.
