I want to do more top water fishing for pike but the only lure i seem to have success with is the buzz bait which is still great! just wondering if people have better success with things like frogs, zara spooks, jitter bugs and how you like to fish them! Would be great to hear everyones thoughts on this.

cheers, j

Lately all my pike have been caught on a 2 blade buzz bait and zara spooks and the x-rap clown color and don't forget the good ol faithful five of diamonds,

Ive always like spinnerbaits and buzz baits myself, but If those aren't workin I would try a frog or something. Honestly, Ive only ever caught 1 fish on a topwater frog, and it was 12lb pike... Not a big fan of them, but obviously they do work. Good luck.

I like those poppers ( i think there called) I picked up a couple that look like perch at liquidation world for 50¢ and caught a few pike on them.
I like to cast it out, let it sit for a bit, then real in slow, and give a jerk here and there. then let it sit and repeat. works for me

I have had good luck using the headon tiny torpedos especially the light blue but the frog pattern works too. I just crank them a few feet then let them sit for a few seconds.

I like using some old wooden plugs that my father passed along. The trebles have been replaced with big singles. 8-10" floating plugs pulled through the weed bed, love it.

Top water frog that its back legs spin leaving a wake behind. Cast it onto the shore and pop it into the water, a few reels let sit "bang" pike on. I have a blast at Cow Lake with these. Some lakes work better than others for top water and I dont know why.

My all-time fave is the Mr.Twister Top Prop. It works simularly to the frogs with the propeller legs. The fire-tiger one is the best!

Hi,
I was just at Liquidation World last Thursday night in Calgary. There is a HUGE table of lures at the back of the store towards the hardware/paints section. Everything was 50 cents! Happy shopping!

What is your preferred situation for top water?

time of day?
Depth?
weeds?
light condition?
water condition?

I like calm water on cloudy days or near dusk..

The Swick would have to be my favorite. I have a few of them with so many teeth marks in them I'm suprised they still float.

Crazy Crawlers!!! Crank it just fast enough to make a good gurgle over any weedbed!! Stops the ol' ticker evertime... ;)
