It's not often being from Calgary that I get to fish on Pigeon, but we try to do it 2-3 times per year. I have never been disappointed there, we always have some really good fishing. This weekend was no different.

We were up for a stag, 5 of us (was supposed to be 8) rented a cabin at Johnsonia. A nice little place that suited us well. We went out fishing Friday afternoon, stayed out until a storm came up. Within minutes of arriving upon gps spot, fish were litterally jumping in the boat. Often times couldn't even get the hook down. Once the storm got close we got off, not before tagging 3 43 and under fish. We caught 6 that would have been of size, but we were being pretty selective and tried to get the longest and fattest ones we could. Fished from 3-6 pm after we tubbed around a bit. It was pretty much dead calm until the storm. I'd estimate close to 100 fish.

Saturday 4 of us went about about 12-6. We tried a couple of spots, caught fish in them all. First time fishing at the PP side, we went there cause it was pretty windy at first (a little less windy there). Setup in 19 FOW...so many fish lol. It was hammer time and it was litterally one after another. Double, tripple, quadruple headers....good times. We did see people catching fish as well, nothing like our success. Soon there was people surrounding us. We were able to fill another 3 fish tags, all nice fat 42.5 cm fish. After getting out crowded, we head back to the GPS spot. Calm waters, 25 degrees, lots of fish. We so much so that we fished in life jackets in the water...my friend landed a fish that way. Made a nice video lol. Went through 10 tubs of minnows and 1/4lb of leeches. Oddly they weren't hitting gulp alive this time nor did we have a lot of luck with leeches on jigs. You had to keep the leeches moving with a lindy for some reason. Minnows definitely better.

The water level at Johnsonia was very shallow. But there were thousands of minnows in the weeds/mud. While sitting around the fire I was able to catch a couple with a pickeral rig, in not more than 6" of water 50 feet from shore from midnight to 2 am (there was a nice full moon) on Saturday night.

Water temp: 65 degrees
Depending on location, fishing was good between 16-19 FOW. HARD BOTTOM!
Caught estimated 250 fish.
Filled 6 43 and under tags, but caught at least a dozen that could have been tagged (some to small or skinny).
Smaller fish at PP than anywhere else.
Minnows and small 1/32 or 1/16 jig heads, change colors every hour.
GULP not working.
We didn't see anyone else tagging fish.

A couple of pics to share.

One more thing I forgot. Water level still quite low. We launched at Mulhurst. Quite low but OK to get boat in if you stay to the FAR LEFT. Then just being careful and it is OK. Although we saw many people that have NO IDEA how to launch or retrieve a boat. Truly no common sense out there.

Great report nicemustang. I will be up there starting Wednesday, will most likely be a gong show but hope to have some fun anyway.

Looks like a ton of fun but I'd stay close to the boat or have some sort of marker out there with you if you are just fishing in a life jacket. You are pretty tough to spot sitting that low in the water. I can easily see some door knob racing past in his new ski boat running you over.

Not that I know of. I think there used to be but they went out of business.
