I was on a crew this spring in Fort Mac and out of well over a hundred tradesmen there was about 10 of us from western canada. The rest from NFLD and Cape Bull****. All you heard was how much alberta sucked and how stuck up we are. They told me we act like we are better then everyone else. Keep in mind not all of them were like that, i met some really good guys up there but id say most. They stuck to their own clics and left us out of the loop. Sooo many of them were related it blew my mind. Most were fresh out of school(not even apprentices) making 60 something an hour. And guess what happened when lay offs came almost all the albertans were cut first. We were all journeymen and they kept most of the apprentices from out east. Now Ill never be opposed to anyone from canada (-quebec) coming and working in alberta cause we are all canadians but dont bitch about it. Alberta paid for that truck your "misses" drives when you are working your 20 and 8, it paid for your little piece of land by the pond, your kids hockey equipment, hell even for your can of vienna sausages and she most certainly paid for your 10 months of poggy that you got coming to ya!!! So have a little bit of respect.

i consider 'real' fishing to be salt water fishing because im from the east coast and that is how we are raised, mostly because any fish u can catch in alberta, sturgeon aside are small, and alot of men consider size everything.... odd that all you alberta folks dont grasp that. that being said.... im pretty sure not one of us has declared our province better than any other one on this forum. But thats the issue right there you created that myth in your head. You tell us to relax and then say stuff like how people compare us to the states and tell us its our attitude. What about your attitude?. And chances are if its more than one guy at work (regardless of home province) thats telling you that you are annoying, you probably are just that annoying.

Does the oil industry not depend on employees to operate?

If there were enough people in Alberta willing/able to do the job would there not be so many 'interlopers' here?

We complain about the transfer payment system in this country, yet begrudge hard earned dollars being funneled into formerly economicaly depressed regions in a non-socialistic manner?

I too am from Newfoundland living in Alberta. I have been here for 15 years, married a beautiful woman from Lethbridge and am raising my kids here. I have heard the comments over the years about people from the east coast and really didn't pay any attention to it, but the comments on this tread in my opinion are truly pathetic. I love Alberta and love Newfoundland also, I have worked with ***holes from both places and like most people realize that your going to get them anywhere you go. It's sad to think people are so narrowed minded as to generalize a whole province like that.

The point the OP failed to properly articulate, was the fact that 'real fishing' to him ment salt water commercial stuff and NOT sportfishing with a rod and reel. Some let their egos and prejudices get ahead of their ability to comprehend, and thus represented the fine people and fine province of Alberta in a terribly embarassing manner. Wow Walleyes your awfully quick to jump down someones throat about being from the East Coast. Do you really believe your "Oilfield Trash" wages pay for NFLD's unemployment? I work in the oilpatch and I work with as many easterners as I do westerners. They all pay the same taxes, Albertans pay for as much of Eastern Canada's unemplyment, as easterners pay for Alberta's Natives.
I dont believe one place is better than the other just that i grew up in one not the other. I cant help where im from, but im still Canadian.

I wasnt lucky enough to have a caper/newfie bond with my boss or his 5 cousins to BS my way through the tickets and courses and still land a decent pay in the recession...... I dont know the weather in cornerbrook, and i never seen glace bay..... so im SOL in the field till it picks up and the nait certified boys get back to work
