It depends on how far you're willing to travel, there's plenty out in the Kananaskis direction within and hour or cochrane....Sibbald lake/pond, McLean Pond, Mt Lorette<probably fished out> Allen bill pond

I have hit most of those before, I was out at Crossfield pond killing time until the bow goes down and was hoping I did not have to drive 50 k to find a good easy fishing spot

I live in NW Calgary, I can get to Dewitts in 10 minutes, I was out there last night and it is completely overgrown with algae, plus I have not caught a fish out there over 9 inches long. I think Dewitts is very overrated

Yeah it's a better place to fish in early fall really, the fish have grown to 12-14 inches and are really hungry by then......as for stocked ponds other than that i'm not sure

Do you stick mostly to the river?

i was just out at mclean pond on tuesday and i caught a number of little rainbows and brookies. using a little meps spinner seems to do the trick. ive also been out to dewitts pond and ive had a little luck with the bober but the pond is over fished and they stocked with 1000 trout about a month ago (i think) and ive already noticed a decline in fish.
mclean pond is a good one if your looking for something close to chochran go to the far side. i find no one wants to walk around to that side and thats were ive had all my luck.
enjoy :happy0180:

Actually I avoid the river unless i'm really desperate to fish, I dont have much luck on it unless i'm floating and dragging lures..

Ya, I was at Dewitts one night and some old guy had pulled about 20 out, he had them sitting on shore, none of them could have been more than 7 or 8 inches long, what a waste

I have still not fished the flats south of Calgary, I have had a little bit of luck by Bearspaw Dam though

people definatly take advantage of the no size limits at the stock ponds and it takes its toll on the number of fish in the pond and sooner or later your going to have to wait till they stock it again

He wasn't breaking a size limit rule, the limit is 5 fish, not 20....the poachers in this province **** me off.

I don't think half the people fishing out there have a License even, I have seen so many people show up with a plastic bag of lures and a fishing rod covered in plastic still. Fish and wildlife seems to have forgotten about the place as well

I dont think they even patrol most stocked ponds outside of Kananaskis......I've never even seen a CO while fishing at Dewitt's.

ya that is a **** off.
another thing that really ticks me off is when people set up a pickrel rig and they will cut the line and tie it off to the shore somewhere and will come back to check on it later that day or the following one. ive been walking along the shore and ive come across these and i always pull them in and if there is nothin on them i remove the line. ive pulled ones in that have a couple dead fish on the end of them that look like they have been dead for a couple days.

Heres a question, Is there bodies west of Calgary that have Pike in good numbers?

I have not caught any pike since my childhood back in Saskatchewan, I know they are plentiful in the lakes east and south of Calgary, have not heard of any west though

Are you really worried about size????You could always go to Chestermere and catch a few of them...doubt you'd catch anything of good size though

I've heard Cochrane is very shallow/weedy and there's not many fish left in it....too easily accessed I guess
