Goldeye would rank up there too.

I would say arctic graying but goldeye would be right up there though.

Ive caught 13 pound pike, 8 lb walleye but my 5 pound miniwanka laker sure seemed to fight way harder then the bigger ones. Fought hard and stayed down for a long time.

sturgeon

could you imagine hooking into a 20-50lb goldeye:scared0015: now that would be a fight.

Really eh,, huh..

I really have to go out and try that lake.. I have caught Lakers of all size up to 15# or so. On Grist lake, The Flathead in Montana, many many out on Cold lake and I have to say that we have found them to be the laziest most useless fish there is. My boys hate going with me for them,, they really do. The only reason I like them is cause they are something different and it lets me keep in practice on my west coast gear..

Nothing fights better than a goldeye. Seriously.

Maybe I just caught small goldeyes, but a lake white caught in the summer that is 6+ lbs fights way more. Walleye fight more than goldeye in my experience.

On light tackle Goldeye are great scappers but for sheer power sturgeon are tops IMHO

Really? The only walleye that I've truly fought was a 8lber and it took a while to bring it, but apart from that one, in my experience is walleyes aren't the best fighters and I've caught a lot of them.

4 pound plus mountain whitefish in heavy current on 2 pound test line, or a pike on anything. Cant say about the sturgeon yet, too busy fighting the pike :sHa_sarcasticlol:

I personally love the fight of a cutthroat on the river :) when you see the cuttie rise to the top of the water to take your fly off the top then torpedeo down the river and current and you think you have a huge fish on to be lucky a 14 or 16 inch cuttie, love them!

ounce for ounce trout are the smartest and tougher to land. ounce for ounce a 2 pound goldeye fights harder than most other 2 pound fish. i also think fighting a river current has something to do with it as well.

we spent the good part of a weekend at winifred catching 7-8 # pike (on average) with light gear. top bait spinners through the reeds. soooo much fun. i love how hard they hit it and how far they'll come out of the water.

I'd say barracuda but if it has to be an alberta sportfish I would have to say goldeye

Since the original post didn't say "sport" fish, I'd have to agree with the earlier poster with sucker. They may be trash fish to most, but they still fight like a bugger on a 4wt flyrod and seem to have relentless energy.

...I'd say it REALLY depends on 'how many ounces' but for me it would be;
Sturgeon, Whitefish, Trout (Cutts and Bows), Goldeye, PIKE, Sucker, Walleye, then the rest..

Ounce for ounce I'd say either goldeye or river pike :fishing:
