I attempted to upload a custom avatar however have not been successful in resizing the image to 80 x 80 or less than 19.5 kb. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Do as Bob Law says or join something like Photo bucket that way you can simply upload pictures to the forum . Its pretty idiot proof . Edit the picture you want , and it will do a Size Edit , and just go 80 X 80 works great . Hope that helps .
