Is there always sheep visible from the road at cadomin?

I was thinking of taking my young kids out there this weekend to watch some sheep and take pictures.

Less people than Jasper I was thinking.

Usually but not always. A walk up onto the Hot Rocks usually produces too but again not always. The odds are in your favour but there's no guarantee you'll see them.

How do you access Hot ROcks. I have been there 2 times and I can't seem to find out how to get in there. I usually just watch them off f the parking lot right next to the main road. Lots there to see.

Is Hot rocks back to the road that heads into where all the equiment is to lad the trains up and the big buildings? Someone said that is where to access it but I talked to one of the workers at the closed gate and he didn't have a clue.

Turn right just after you go under the underpass coming from the north. Follow the road to the right to a parking lot. From there it's a short walk.

If I remember right there is a locked gate right there and a booth with nobody in it. Is it really o.k to jump the fence and hike down that road or am I thinking the wrong spot?

when you get to the booth hang a right and head up a couple hundred yards with your truck, there is a staging area there.

Keep to the right...no gate there.

yeah its kind of a goat trail of a road but you keep to the right as you come to the gate. there will be signs in the parking lot. I think they call it the gregg river headwaters staging area.

<quote>"From there it's a short walk."</quote>

I saw them in 2005 and just wanted to make sure it wasn't a total fluke. Here are the pics from then:

It's definitely worth your time to go up through Banff and Jasper on your way to Cadomin if you're coming from Calgary. It may take 6 to 7 hours but the drive is beautiful this time of year!

Just a thought, but wouldn't it be a good idea for F&W to capture and transplant some of these brutes to other areas. Let the genes run wild. With so many quality sheep in this one area, why not improove other zones as well. I know horn growth as a lot to do with what the eat, but so does genes.

Was up there a month and a half ago and there is quite a bit of construction going on. Not sure if they are still working on them, but they were putting in tubes over the Mcloed. What a place though..........

I've never been to Cadomin, It's kinda like the strip club when you were 18, starring at all these amazing racks, then having to go home to video's ,magazines and dreams. But I really need to expirence it just once:bad_boys_20:

Thx for the horn porn, I can stare at those all day.

i know they aren't photo shopped wolf killer, i'm just blown away by that scene, i would seriously have a fit if i saw something like that while sheep hunting somewhere, i would probably blow it because i'd start rolling around on the ground laughing outloud at the impossibility of such a scene in an open season on huntable ground

Great place to go. I do a good number of trips there each year and hve yet to not see a ton of rams. Usually average at least 100+. Here are a few ive gotten shots of over the years.

These were taken by the noted Photographer who frequents the mine - and I am looking to sell if anyone is interested. They are Mine Rams.

I'm sitting in a restaurant in Hinton and took the drive to Cadomin this evening before dawn. Saw tons of ewes and youngsters but no rams. Still pretty neat to see them.
