My good friend caught this pike the other weekend. When he gutted it, he found the other fish inside. He insists its a perch or a small walleye. I disagree.

Can you please tell us whether the fish is either:

1. Perch
2. Walleye
3. Smaller Pike
4. White fish
5. Burbot
6. Sucker

I have listed everything it could be (species in the lake). I am not allowed to say what i think it is as he believes it will influence the result.

sucker, the scales are too small for a white. maybe get a pic of the mouth and you will know for certain. not a perch or walleye, zero % of that

the pike measured 75cm. On a really old spring scale it weighed 11lbs. The weight may be off as the scale was very old but i had my tape measure to it so the length is accurate. I caught one 78cm and it weighed 10lb on the same scale. My fish weighed less as it didnt have a massive meal already in its belly

Once caught a 6 " pike, on a 5" spoon. Apparently, to them, size doesn't matter.

Pike will go after/eat anything. I've seen a pike chomp down on a skrat/ducks like jaws does /w people.

I would be throwing that scale out as those weights are way off for the length.

Thats what i thought. I am going to buy a digital one. The scale was my buddies dads and it has to be 25 years old. Im betting closer to 7lbs based on the length

I once caught about a 3 lb pike on a red and white daredevil and when I pried open it's mouth to remove it, the tail from it's last meal was in the back if it's mouth. It's last meal was a river chub.

That's where I was thinking around. Two weeks ago my pops caught one in that 76 cm area and the rusty scale said 5 but I felt that was a tad light as it wasn't noticeably a skinny fish. Felt closer to 6 pounds.

The fish must be real hungry where you caught that pike! Out of curiosity was it a lake pike or a river pike?

Respectfully disagree. Shorthead Red horse suckers ( which by far are most common red horses here) have red fins and yellowish tint to their scales even when they are quite young - I caught tons of THAT size red horses and that fish in the pictures is not one of those. It is white sucker. Longnose suckers on the other hand have way smaller scales and darker body than fish in the picture. And where did you get that they can grow to 20 lbs? Maximum reference I found was 10.

i looked at the pics again and yes you are right they are white suckers my mistake. and as for the size of red horse suckers my family lives at cold lake which is about 4 hours north east of here and 2 of my uncles comercial fish and pretty much every year they pull out red horse suckers 15lbs one of them about 6 or 7 years ago they pulled up a 18 lbs sucker now im not sure why but in cold lake they get huge! they are not considerd a sport fish so they have no place in the record books but i know for a fact if they do add sucker the record will come from cold lake.

thanks again

There are several types of redhorse suckers. The silver is one of the biggest with the largest recorded weight of about 20 kg.
