Hey guys,

Have you stumbled upon any quality wool jackets lately that aren't $400 or more? I'm thinking Woolrich (~$190), but I haven't seen them carried anywhere. Even some milsurp stuff would work well, but I haven't found any wool milsurp jackets either. Throw some suggestions my way!

Have you checked out Cabela's? They have some wool hunting clothing, the Cabela's Outfitter's Wool series. I don't have it, but I have owned some other Cabela's brand hunting clothing - always been pretty happy with it.

I think that the wool jacket/shirt was 149 and the jacket was around 200

Hmm I might have to stop by WSS. I was in there other day but I didn't look too hard for jackets - I had other items on the shopping list. I saw a CC Filson Jacket for $300-$400 which is way more than I want to pay.

I've noticed that Cabela's branded gear before but always kind of wondered about it. It must be pretty decent quality if they'll put their name on it.

Can't beat wool for hunting. Quiet and warm even when soaked to the bone. Got all mine a WSS. Jacket and pants.

I have my eye on a really nice looking (and from the comments popular) jacket in LL Bean.

Anything I have every bought from them has been the highest quality

Filson coats are worth the price though. You'd probably use it for 20 yrs or more.

Filson are nice, but they are sooooo ITCHY. I tried one on and felt the collar would give my neck a rash

Bought a Columbia wool jacket from Wholesale a few years back and love it. I think it was about $140, but I wish it had a hood. It also has no zippers which I love.

How do the those Browning jackets fit? I've heard they fit a bit small. I'm 6 foot 190lbs, so I'm thinking maybe a large? I hope that would fit, because that is all that's left at Sierra.

I've got a red and black filson jacket that's just a bit small for me. I suppose if you had a chest of about 36 it sould fit. I'd sell it for $100.00. If anyone is interested pm me.

Most of my wool hunting gear has come from the second hand store. A lot of the older guys have good heavy wool clothes in their closets, and when they pass on, their stuff usually ends up dropped off at the Salvation Army or Value Village. Pennies on the dollar too.

Uh... except in Lethbridge, never anything in Lethbridge, only other places.

Crap, how do I delete this?

Ha, no worries - I'm no where near Lethbridge.

I'm assuming there is nothing around Edmonton either...

I don't own any wool hunting jackets anymore, because I prefer to stay dry,but I do own a couple of Browning jackets. Both fit a little large for their size.I can get by with large Browning clothes, but require x-large in some other brands.Cabelas brand clothing, also tend to fit a little on the large side.

A friend of mine in the States has one of these, and loves it. Price is not too bad:
