does anyone know when the grayling generaly run in the foothills?

Grayling spawn in the spring.

people have told me the "run" in late august early september, but I have never caught one so I can't say forsure. Would like to know myself when is a good time to catch grayling in the mcleod.

Where in the foothills do you mean? Around here (Sundre) I have heard lots of people call the whitefish grayling. We tend to do best for the whites in Sept.

the area i am interested in is down the elk river road west of drayton valley.
i hear a lot of the tiny bush streams fill with grayling briefly at some point during the summer.but dont know when.

Grayling migrate in the Fall to their overwintering habitat from smaller streams etc.

Is that what you refer to?
