Hey guys,

Planning on taking my dad out to Spray Lakes for some boat fishing.

Anyone have any info where the ramp is located, and whats the best bait/rig to use?

Thanks a bunch, cheers.

The ramp is here at driftwood (50.984681,-115.346274 copy into google maps). Best rig to use is a downrigger ball and 5-6" spoons. Fish above the thermocline during the mornings/evenings, during the day they usually are hugging bottom. So jigging might be best. White tube jigs with smelt. Bait, no baitfish allowed.

Thanks Mustang. Much appriciated. Looks easy enough to find, just follow the smith dorrian trail till I hit the ramp.

I've been to Spray a bunch of times, but stayed on the west side only *Camping*.

Planning on using pickrel rigs + smelts, we'll see how that works.

Thanks again,

I don't think you'll get enough action on pickeral rigs. Lakers are agressive feeders, you need to use something that you can jig the crap out it to get them to trigger and have a nice fall, like a tube jig or buzz bomb.

if you don't mind catching smaller lakers, they really like panther martins top water trolled. no downrigger needed.

Hmm...I can see that but never tried it. Anyone try a hering rig out there?

I have an inflatable so no downrigger....needed to be creative and have found a few plugs and spinners that they will snatch up. Would sure be nice to get a bigger one though - I haven't had any success with that just yet.

would you jig the herring rig, nice mustang? I hadn't heard of them before but liked this video on how to make them.

Ya that's a good way to tie it. A herring rig setup like this one:

Trolled like they do for salmon or lakers, popular on the great lakes or on west coast (saw it on couple fishing shows). I've never done it, but want to try it.
