What does anyone know about White River Fly Shop products? I've seen them being sold at Bass Pro Shops, not sure if they sell them anywhere else. I want to get into fly fishing and it seems they sell everything. Rods, reels, wadders, vests, flies, you name it.

white river has perfect good quality flies and fly fishing accesories like nets fly boxes and everything inbetween but for a rod that's amazing and has a great waranty get a tfo rod and for reels I'd go with an islander but for most things else white river has great stuff

That's great to hear. The only reason I ask is because I work at Bass Pro Shops and get 40% off their products. That includes White River stuff so I figured I could get an OK setup for a nice price. If I find I really enjoy fly fishing, which I'm sure I will, I'll probably get something a little fancier later on. Don't want to go all out to begin with.

As for wadders, is it best to get something insulated? Am I going to freeze my butt off after half an hour of standing in waste deep river water? Obviously it'll be colder in the winter time. Do people wade in the winter time? lol. What about thermal underwear and stuff? Does that do anything to keep the cold out or the heat in?

I personally wear thin breathable waders and usually in the summer I'll just wear wet shoes and swim trunks it's good cuz u can swim in the deep holes haha and u don't sweat like pig in shorts but for winter time I just wear my breathable simms waders and I wear pajama bottoms to keep my legs warm so if ure just fishing in AB then breathable waders will do the trick. But i also have a pair of insulated waders for duck hunting and dead of winter fly fishing when it's so cold u shouldn't be outside

White River is Bass Pro Shops house branding for fly fishing, just like RedHead is for their clothing line.

Breathables suck for winter time. Neoprene suck for summer. You're gonna wanna get neoprene if you plan on fishing into the night and through fall/winter/spring. Plus, if you fall into really cold water, it's 10X harder to swim. Neoprene will help you float.

I had both. Neoprene FTW. More durable too. After I ripped my first pair of expensive ones (argh, $600) I had for a few years I gave em to my brother in law. I bought a cheapy pair of those brown bare waders for $100 and they're a hell of alot better. Remember though, if you buy neoprene, make sure the feet are loose. If they're too tight, you'll freeze your feet off in the colder months.

Also, white river products should do fine. Just don't go cheap if it's a plastic reel or something. The only thing I'd recommend not to go cheap on is, if you can help it, the rod, and the flyline. I recommend scientific anglers flyline. I had a spool off my very first flyrod bought in 1998, and the **** still floats and casts like new.
