I going to purchase a 20hp motor. What brand does everyone preffer. I like the Merc they bring alot of good features to the table. Evinrudes Weigh way to much. Honda well its a Honda, Nissan?Suzki? Which One?

I bought a 20hp Tohatsu last year. Absolutely love it. 115lbs, but light enough to move by myself.
Tohatsu and Nissan are the exact same, but u will pay about $200 more for the nissan sticker.

Merc's up to 30hp are also tohatu powertrain (exception being the gearcases I believe)

Best deal I got by far was Free Spirit marine in Edmonton. Just do the proper break in then have fun. I can go for days and days on a 5 gallon can...this motor just sips the gas. And quiet as heck. Starts right away as well.

In terms of speed. I use it on a crestliner 14ft car topper and have gotten 27mph (gps) with just me. It will plane with 4 adults.

I cant remember what I paid, as I know Freespirit had bought a bunch of motors when the dollar was above par and were several hundred cheaper than anywhere else.

I also had a 9.9 yammy 4 stroke...excellent motor. Cudnt justify the cost for a 20hp though, considering I think I paid about $2400 for the tohatsu....

I can get a new Merc 20hp for 3500bucks. or a 9.9 from 2900.
