Heading up north on Thursday for four days of lake trout fishing. Have never fished before for lake trout this late in the year, usually in June. With the cooler weather we have been having lately, would the lake trout have moved into shallower water yet or still deep down? Thanks, any insight would be great.

I'm guessing still "real" deep.

Think of it this way, the sweet spot for lakers is somthing like 43F (thats is why they are so active under the ice) I can't remember what killer warm is for them.

I guess it would depend on how far north your heading. Typically they are deep by now but my buddy went way up north for a caribou hunt and they were catching lakers trolling spoons with no added weight. That was in September. Best of luck. Rick.

I was up north at Andrew Lake last week and the lakers were between 65 and 85 feet down in 120 ft of water. They will stay deep for a few more weeks till the surface temp cools down. They are very willing to bite, just have to find them!!
