On the way home from the river tonight I came close to having a young deer for a hood ornament, but I am curious, it was still very spotted, isnt it a bit late in the season? It wasnt all that small, but no where near full sized yet.

It's normal for the young ones around Calgary to have some spots until early/mid Sept. The spots gradually shed out as they grow their winter coat. I got a young one one a few years ago in mid Sept. that had two rows of spots remaining on it's back. Along with the short, soft hair, it made a beautiful tanned hide. I still think about giving that one away. :snapoutofit:

I have seen a couple TINY single fawns in the last couple weeks. Makes me think there was some action during the second rut last fall.
