I'm heading out Monday for some big Sturgeons with catfish rigs. I could show you a decent spot close to the Capilano bridge.

Nice boat, I picked mine up from Dave in the spring. They are fantastic boats, and you'll love everything about them.
If you launch at Fort Sask (its a nicer launch with less "loitering" kids around parked trucks) and just head upstream to the big bend past the island, fishing a lindy rig anywhere in more than 6' of water will pull a pig 'eye in. Last night my wife nailed a 9lber. Using leaches.
Can also zip downstream from there 15 mins to mouth of the sturgeon, good eyes there too.
Ask Dave for some spots past Devon, he's better at explaining them than I am. He is a NSR wealth of knowledge.

The rig...
a walking sinker on your main line down to a snap swivel. Then a 24" long lindy rig with a barbless circle hook and little orange phelps float.
Boat launch is just off hiway 21. Look for big blue signs for boat launch. They have it signed really well either direction off hiway 21. Its on Sounth end of Town (opposite side as Dow Rec Center). Heading down later today. You follow signs through a really nice residential neighborhood. Athabasca was disappointing when we went, 1 small walleye. About 20 moose though.

Let's see now, a guy buys a new fishing boat ( nice little Explorer, BTW!:))
offers to take experienced fishermen out in his outfit to learn the river, share some tips, and maybe learn how to pilot his boat a little better.
I see absolutely NOTHING wrong here, but some fellas get a bit hung up on "secret " spots - of which there are none!:sign0161:
I'm with you, pdfish.
oh, and walleyeca, if you ever get up north, PM me, I can show you some tricks about skinny water, and also show you some real "'secret " spots!!:sHa_shakeshout:

Maybe that guy thinks there are only 4 fish in the whole river. If thats the case someone should tell him that I've caught them all.

Walleyeca, launch at Laurier (valley zoo), its a good launch. From there head upstream past the Quesnel bridge. Lots of good places tight in along the steep ridges and across from Terwillegar dog park. If you have a fishfinder, it should be no problem to find them.

I recently picked up a new river boat. You will really enjoy spending time on the NSR. A very diverse and dynamic place to fish and explore. The first time I got my boat onto the river it was a very hot day and the people that are on the river was amazing. I do lots of fishing, and if you have a sonar you will be able to find alot of holes on your own. That's half the fun. Anyway, be safe on the river it can be a very daunting place.

its a hook that has a sharp angle towards the shaft of the hook. It is a barbless hook that is much more difficult for a fish to spit, but easy to release at the boat. A number 2 or 4 is good. I use Lazer Sharp, they seem good, but my last 30" walleye on the river bent it wide open right before I picked him up for a photo opp. Won't find them at Canadian tire, you have to go to Fishin Hole or Wholesale Sports to find them. Absolutely worth it.

you got an excellent machine and a great deal. I was trying to convince my friend to buy it, so we could go on longer trips. The power to weight ratio of 2 strokes makes them so much better for these little boats. Dave makes awesome little boats. he's a great guy too. if you ever have a problem, he is very accomodating.
