How long does the rut last for elk is it longer then a deer rut? Can you call them at all in post rut or would they be completly non responsive?

I have called elk in mid October. there always one looking for a cow but it isnt all that good at that time of year. Best for me ios Sept 1st to 25, even now they seem to be slowing up as far as bugling goes. This big bull i seen didnt have much interest in me today
