Well here is the second hunt I did and cant wait to see what the allstar armchair critics have to say so here goes...
Hunter arrived in camp around 10am. We waited around camp getting him organized during the 6 hrs we had to wait to hunt. That evening we went to a glassing knob above camp for a few hours. We saw numerous moose including a couple bulls. Things were looking good for the first full day of the hunt. The next morning we got up early and when the hunter came into the cook cabin he was hobbling on one leg pretty bad. he informed me that he had banged it bad before they flew out from Whitehorse. He said it was sore but should loosen up as the day went.
We rode for a couple hours and reached a good vantage point and stopped to do somwe glassing. We looked around for a couple hours and finally saw a decent bull stand up in the heat on the day for a streatch then moved a little and bedded again. We planned a stalk for the 2 miles between us and the bull. We rode 3/4 of the way then hiked the rest planning on coming over a small nobb above the bull. We were coming around the hill we we spotted what we thought was the same bull to the north a half mile or so. We continued our stalk in that direction with the hunter really starting to favor his leg. We got to within 300yrds of the bedded bull and finaly got a good look at him and decided to pass on him. We had lunch and a short nap then headed for the horses. at this point the hunter was done he couldnt hardly walk so the wrangler and I headed back and brought the hunters horse to him and headed for camp with visions of the hunt being over. We were riding along a ridge so I decided to drop over the side we originaly saw the bull. We hadnt gone far we I spotted a bull. Realizing it was the original bull and we didnt have far to go we were stalking again. With only 400yrds to go we slowly moved in with the hunter laboring for the whole stalk. We were finaly 200yrds from the bull but couldnt see him where he was bedded. We sat for 2 hrs then as we were getting late in the day I cow called to get him up. being early before the rut the bulls tend to move away from calling but after 2 quick bull grunts he stopped and 4 7mmDakota shots had us taking these pics. We ended up with a very happy hunter that just a few hours earlier was thinking about his hunt being over without getting anything other than a trip to the doctor.
