The past week we left the Canadas alone and targeted the specks.
It appears that this years hatch was a good one, due to the amount of juevies we are seeing. Well here are a few pics from this weeks adventures.

It semd like the only palces the geese were landing for us this weekend were fields where we were not allowed to hunt!

Skunkboy and I got our first speckles this weekend, personally these were the first I have ever seen. Never seen one in easterm Manitoba where I had my other waterfowler life.

Waterfowling is a great thing to get into with the kids, I am sure glad I started back up.

So these birds are local to the prairies?

Nope they are arctic nesters that migrate the central flyway. Don’t quote me on this but I don’t think you see a lot of them east of Regina. The past few years their numbers have been increasing greatly.

They are defiantly my favorite bird. One of the nice bared up ones is in my freezer, and ready to head to the taxidermist. I am just having trouble finding a pose that I really like.

Gotta love those 6 pound teal. My favorite eating goose for sure. Too bad I don't get to see many in my end of the country.

Anyone been shooting and Specks lately? It seems like a lot have moved on and we are kind of at a stand still here in my area. I am seeing the odd bunch but nothing like there was two weeks ago.

Still quite a few specas around out east. The snows have just starting to come in for the past week and a half, saw about 5000 between two ponds this past weekend, with new flights coming in daily, will only get better :)

We shot a limit of White-fronted geese on Monday (Oct 11), with about 2000 left in our area. However in most years the majority of White-fronts will move out of the province by the middle of next week. Of course the weather has been incredible over the last few weeks with no signs of abating so we may get a few more flocks staying here a little longer. With that said White-fronts tend to migrate based on Photo-period and not weather so here's hoping a few do stay around.

Driving home from closing the cabin I saw I don't know how many thousands of snows. There is a petrocan on a hill overlooking a big slew between lloyd and edmonton the sky was white with them, the most geese I have seen in one spot since Oak Hammok marsh in Manitoba.
