I posted it this thread in the archery discussion, but I know some don't visit there so Ill post here
Well is started back in the spring when my dad picked up a bow! We've been practicing all summer and finding some nice deer.
My dad has been away half of this month due to working so its been hard trying to get a ride to my spots but when he is home we try and make it count!
He missed a bigger buck last week at 23 yards because of buck fever but it didn't get him down.
Started out this morning at 6, getting up, and getting the bows packed up. Got to our spot at sunrise and started to see deer in the Conola (12 deer in total, 4 bucks, including this one) we watched them bed down at 9 or so. Went back to get something to eat and plan out what we should do for the afternoon,
Got back into the field around 2 and started to glass the field, My dad spotted this one bedded down. He sent me down to the field and I began the stalk (the wind was picking up big time) Well i got to about 90 yards to this one and he decieded to get up and walk around. I backed out to see what he was going to do next. He walked towards a bigger buck and and a couple of does that were bedded, they got up and started to feed.
We started to glass again and i spotted a big 3x3 that we spotted earlier in the season. I got my dad to do this stalk, everything was working out perfect, howling wind, buck looking in the opposite direction, airplanes flying by. he closed to the gap to about 50 yards, My dad kept going and got to 35, the buck got up and pinned him, the buck knew something was up but didn;t know for sure, so he casually walked/fed away. The 3x3 got below this little knowl and my dad stalked up closer. The buck kept looking but still did not run away.
Later on at about 6 30, the 2 other bucks started to walk towards the 3x3, dad was in perfect position. One of the other bucks stayed back while this deer and the 3x3 walked towars each other. They were at 40 yards (by now the wind died down) dad drew back put is pin on the 3x3 but over his back, they looked back to where the noise of the arrow was, this gave my dad time to get another arrow out. the 3x3 walked away, but this buck walked towards my dad at 30 yards broadside, dad drew back again and smoked him. The buck didn't go anywhere.
The buck is a 4x3 with some jumk around his bases. hes heavy, decent backs but nothing for fronts. Still a great first bow deer!! Dang, now hes beating me!!
This buck is a pig on the weight side, easily 300+
