Went out hunitng this last satruday with a friend of mine and did a little river boat hunt for some elk. Had an idea of where they were crossing and came up with a good plan of action just in case a big guy wanted to show his face. Long story short he showed himself we a few coaxing cow calls and bugles and the rest is history. Good plan, good hunt, good company and a good elk.

Not to sure if I should do a shoulder mount or just a european mount. I have a nice six on the wall and think he would compliment him even more. Let me know you're thoughts.
Thanks

Great looking bull!! I would LOVE to do a river hunt for bears, moose, or elk one day. Always been high up on my list.

As for the shoulder mount, he's a cool looking elk for sure. How big is your other elk on the wall? He would definatly look good as either...

I am really not to sure how big the first one is I have never had him scored. One of the royals was broken off the first one and the royals are pretty sweet on this one so I was thinking what the heck but haven't decided yet. its kind of got a cool seventh point that kind of drops down which i think adds some pretty cool character.

Nice bull. As far as mounting it would look good either way you decide. If you think you have enough room for a few elk mounts then giver. If you think you can do better then hold off and just do a euro.
Must have been a bit of a struggle getting him in the boat hey, just the two of you.

Great lookin' elk!! We're already planning next years' trip on the boat for elk and moose. We would've done it this year too, except I got drawn for my bull in the Blackfoot. Did you pull to shore before you shot or did you do it from the river?

im not big on elk euro mounts. The section of bone that attaches the antlers to the skull is alot longer then on moose and deer so it looks kind of funny in my opinion. Always a fan of the shoulder mount on elk though.

We actually had an idea of where abouts they were going to cross so we had the boat pulled over to an island and walked through to the other side. so we weren't even in the boat when we made the shot.

Wow, nice elk! must have been quite the task loading him in the bow.
That looks like a big river, is that the Athabasca? or maybe the peace?

Conrats on a Beauty Bull Elk !! Heres an idea. Cape him out ,do it in a Euro for now and if you decide to mount him later pull your cape out of the freezer and take him to the taxi. As you know they take up lots of room ,but you can never have to many mounts :)

Yea it was a real chore pulling him up in that darn boat. We had all morning to get it done so we just took our time and enjoyed it. The Athebasca river was pretty high this year so a guy could follow the chanels and get up and down stream. Hoping to maybe get in another run before the water get's to low if it hasent already.

Wondering what time of year ? Did you have a general tag or draw ? I'm planning a trip right now but looks like general tag for elk on the Athabasca doesn't open till November. I have the right jet boat but it could be cool or cold.

Apologies, I'm confused. Did you say you got the Elk this last Saturday (Sept 12th) on the Athabasca?
I can't seem to find a valid open season along the Athabasca (Draw or General) for Elk until the 17th. Am I misreading the Reg's?
