This is probably the most clueless deer I have ever had the pleasure of running into while hunting. We spotted this buck trotting in the woods we were in, so I loaded one shell into the .270 and figured I would try a stalk. I expected to have to take a running shot as stalking a whitetail usually doesn't work out so well, but I ended up getting way closer then I thought. The deer was 30 yards away and wasn't even looking in my direction when I offhanded a 130 gr Hornady at his ribs. It was slightly quartered and a branch blocked his shoulder so I aimed a little behind the front leg. The deer dropped instantly, my shot went through the diaphragm and took out both lungs. While strolling through the woods earlier in the day I also got a sprucie and thats the only bird I seen all day, the numbers must be down or it was just a bad day for them. Earlier in the day I seen and passed a forkhorn and a spike. This isn't a big deer to take this early on, but it is my biggest so I couldn't pass him up especially with how easy an opportunity he offered me.

Nice buck Moosehunter! Nice brow tines on him, I think a Euro mount on a pine slab would look awesome.

I had a deer like that one time on my ranch. I called him "ole dumba__"! He was a 2 1/2 year old 7pt. that nearly ran over me in the rut one day. He came within 10ft! It seemed I ran into him every time I was walking around, even on a large farm. Sadly, I saw him lying in the road ditch later on that season!

there is one trip to put in the memory and experience bank because there always comes a time when you can draw off that hunt to bag another because there will be a time that you will get somewhat of the same chance again.congrats on a fine buck.

Congratulations Moose, that is a nice buck. You've grown some since last year, and is that a new rifle for you? Looks like a nice package.
