When I first heard this I thought BS. Then I did some research, I mean it wasn't that long ago I knew if Mercury changed the markings on their powerhead bolts, fishing and big motors was my life. Mercury and Yamaha stop making model years in 2005-2006. The motors still have a build date as required by law but with no model year. People are buying 2007 boat packages to discover they have 2005 motors on them!
This is a way around old stock and the need to discount to move the product. Pre rigged boats from the boat factory are the most susceptible to this and the factory says that a motor built in 2005 has the same value as one built in 2007. NADA the marine blue book says not. So what say you sharp business practice or consumer screwing?

Interesting.
Yup just a way to get more from the consumer. Now they don't have to have a end of the year sale just to deplete stock of last years model. Just sell it the next year for the same price or for even more.
