View Full Version : My 2008 Prairie Elk home from the Taxidermist

Hey Guys,

Well...after a short drive this morning and a bit of muscle work and some good friends, we got my elk put up on the wall early this afternoon. I shot this bull on Oct 25th, 2008 and he is my biggest to date.

Most likely the only elk shoulder mount we'll ever have in the house, unless we get a place with some big giant ceilings or with a really nice shop with tall walls somewhere.

Dave Nelson of Foothills Taxidermy did the work and I am absolutely in awe at the quality of work that he does and the professionalism in dealing with details, customer service, and artistic touch. Thanks again Dave!

Yep this was a lot of alterations that Dave did to this form to get it just right. I didnt want a 90 degree turn, and didnt really want a traditional position, so he turned the neck in a few places and tilted the head for me. Obviously a lot of extra little stuff to make it a bit unique. I like the way it turned out!

That looks great Rack.. I like the pic when you walk in the door and look up to see him... that would be great to see everyday!

Heh....not too much 'show' for me for another couple weeks here. Things start getting really busy for me Oct 23rd or so. Then November is stuffed full. I've kinda slowed it right down for Sept and the beginning of Oct...

Then agian, watching Dad knock over a big bull moose in the next couple days would be fun!!

I hope you found the stud for that stud! :lol:

I can think of a pair of potential '10 mounts that would compliment him nicely, not to mention an '09er mulie as well! ;)

trev your head looks great.He did a nice job getting it to look like it does.Hope you dont strane your neck looking at it every day lol.Good luck to your dad on his moose hunt .I get to try and help my other son (jason) get his moose in 166.Cant wait.Good luck to all this year ...........Grampa jim

great looking bull rack!! im glad he turned out so well for you. it must be gut wrenching to think how they can turn out sometimes. but your taxi did a fantastic job. good on him !

For some that asked, the bull gross scored in the 360" range and netted in the 342-347 range. He has really small 3rd points for his frame size which holds him back obviously. He's an AWESOME elk and I just love staring at him!!
