Just got back the other day from the annual fall Fraser River sturgeon trip. Had some really good luck this time around. Best day saw 7 fish to the boat. Lots of smaller ones which is good to see as well as three really nice ones. All lengths are to the fork of the tail and girths are directly behind the pectoral fins.
Enjoy.....SH

Tom's first white sturgeon and first of the trip.
27486

Waiting for the bite.
27487

Tom's 7'2" x 41" girth. Second fish of the trip.
27488
27489

Last fish of the trip 7' x 39" girth.
27490

And the largest of the trip and my personal best to date.....might have to fish a few years to beat this one!
9'4" x 47" girth.

Right on Jeff, looks like a great trip. I can see how you're ruined when it comes to fishing around here.

Fantastic. Thanks for sharing, or were you bragging? You have right to. It appears you had great weather too. How long does it take to get one of those larger ones to the boat. Rick.

The fish between 7 and 7'6" take about 45 minutes from hook set to photos. Fish from 7'6" to 8 feet take about an hour. The 9'4" took around 2 hours.

For gear I use TLD20's and shimano technium 1 piece sturgeon rods. You definatley don't want to go cheap on the gear or those bigger ones will tear it apart.

what test line did you use? did you have to bring your own gear or did the outfit supply everything? can you bring your own gear for an option?

Use 100 pound power pro. If you fish in your own boat you will need your own gear. Its 4 to 5 hundred bucks a set up. The Fraser is definitely NOT DEAD !!!!

Before moving to AB spent many hours on the Fraser and Harrison targetting those dinosaurs. Methinks that with all the rotten sockeye flesh in the river this year there will be some fat sturgeon next year!

Absolutely......all the ones we caught looked like siamese pot belly pigs! Even the little ones had full bellies!

So do you have your own boat or did you use an outfitter? If so what was the outfitters name? Nice fish!

I have my own boat and gear. The guide I used to go with was Cascade sportfishing. Top notch guys. I have heard that Blue water Rockies and Great River are quite good as well.

Fred's is also a reputable guide. I have fished with Len Ames as well and I should not leave out STS Guiding.
