I haven't learned how to tell these two apart yet. I know it's just a sucker, but I like to know exactly what it is I'm catching :)

This guy was definitely the biggest sucker I've pulled out of the river this year.

X2 on the shorthead redhorse.....red fins, the high angled dorsal fin and non-notched lower lip are the key indentifiers. The silver has a larger, more round dorsal fin, V shaped lower lip and the fins are quite silver.

How do they fight?

They dont seem to put up much of a fight...these ones with the red fins. I caught another with smaller scales and was a darker colour and they seemed a bit more of a fighter...

How do they fight?

They fight a lot better than a walleye of similar size, that's for sure! They thrash around a lot, more like a pike, but they don't have the same strength. :)

Thanks guys! Based on how the fins looked when I compared the two species by their pics on Wikipedia I guessed silver redhorse, but it sounds like I'm likely wrong. Glad I asked :)
