Well I have been reading this forum for quite some time and would just like to say thank you to everyone out there that posts such great tips.

The reason I am posting is that my grandfather has decided that he wants to fish for some northern pike one more time before he kicks. He is thinking of Tobin Lake this coming spring after the ice is off. Is this a good option? We also have our own boat to use. He wants to leave from the Edmonton area and not drive for more than 8 hours.

Thanks for your help!

Do you have a boat? If so I'd recommend to go to Wabamun. It's C&R only and has some nice big slough sharks in there and is very close to Edmonton.

I'm no expert for that lake as I've only been there once but we caught a ton of Pike in the 12-15lb range. We saw a 30lb'er come up in the boat next to us.

There are a lot of guys on here with good experience for that lake that probably wouldn't mind pointing you in the right direction.

Just my .02

I would assume the old timer wants something a little more pristine when he fishes. ( old timers are like that ), doesnt want to be fishin next to trains and big plants with smoke billowing out? if not, ya just go to wab. but the one last time thing, i could think of better options.

Good point Pat, the scenery could be better, I hadn't considered that. But you can't beat the fishing and the access is very easy.

Yah he is going to want to be somewhere pristine. With little crowds etc.

I have heard GREAT things about Tobin. Get as big of hook as you can find and hold on.

Calling Lake - Lac La Biche and Cold Lake all present great pike oportunities
Half the distance and great scenery as well.
