I have the new Jiffy, 3hp 10 inch STX blades. Man that thing rips.

I was fishing in -50 with wind last winter and she never skipped a beat.

Don't forget to consider weight when purchasing a power auger. Mine weighs in at over 50 pounds i think. Plus my Clam, my marcum, my buddy heater, 10 lb propane tank and anything else I bring. Lots of weight!!!

Anyways good luck finding the right one!

I also run a 3hp Jiffy with a 10" auger, the motor is probably 10 years old and does not skip a beat.Like Noslack said they do have some weight to them but they chew like crazy.

I run a 16 year old 3.5 hp jiffy 10" never had a problem with it yet. Just make sure you use fresh gas at the start of the year. Other then a few spark plugs and i'm on the third blade.

Buy the best from the start. Tanaka is the way to go. Starts always, more than enough power, and very light. Just a little hard on the pocket.

The Tanaka power head is used only on the Nils Master, right?

I haven't been able to find an online source for these augers in Canada. If someone knows please advise. (I haven't seen that WSS or The Fishin hole Carry them but if someone has please let us know.)

Here are some links to U.S. retailers.

Cabelas U.S.A. (Cabelas Canada website doesn't have them.)

Depending how the Loonie behaves in the next month buying from the U.S.A. could provide a bit of a discount (however, duty will likely be hefty on this item) but I hope someone will post a Canadian source so people who want this auger can buy Canadian.

im thinking of looking at the Strikemaster Strike-Litew II 4 stroke, to bad they only comes as big as 8 inch.

I used to fly Jiffy colors, as those STX blades would cut hole into hole into hole, making some huge ice holes. Fussy on fuel though

I had a jiffy 3 hp in 8 inch for 15 years before I moved out here. The only prob I had was I broke the off/on toggle from letting it slide around in the back of the 1/2 ton. Change plug once in awhile. If your not fishing for Lake Trout, then you don't need anything bigger than an 8 inch. I've pulled a 24 lb pike out of an 8 in hole.

A 10" is nicer. You can see better down when going for whites and perch and much easier to get pike and eyes turned up the hole. If you got the money get a 10" Jiffy if not go to a 10" Eskimo. Shop around tho, you can find prices vary by up to $100 from place to place on either brand. Well worth the time shopping.

Ya I'm kinda excited at the thought of a propane powered auger too! No more slopping gas all over the tailgate or hands when it's -20 or getting coated in gas exhaust sounds like a dream come true. My only concern is usability & durability since this idea seems like no brainer there must be a reason why manufacturers haven't been all over it for years already! With the growing trend towards "green" everything, propane might be the wave of the future for small engine powered devices.

I have my concerns also about how well this unit would work much below zero but I don't know about -40 to -50 Tightlines; I don't know anyone who would even consider ice fishing at those temps! In fact I doubt most trucks would start @ -40 or colder anyway & you could die pretty easy getting stuck on a lake in those temps with a frozen vehicle :scared0015:

What About the Eskimo Augers? I see them at Canadain tire, Wal-Mart, Wholesales. I seen a 10"Shark Z51 for $389. My Dad runs a Husqvarna 10" small light chews through the Ice like a hot knife but very hard on the wallet. My brother runs an older Jiffy 8" but its alot slower and needs constant attention to the carb. It has never quit running just runs like crap if not tuned in.
